During challenging times, as we pray for better days yet to come, I am reminded of the importance of not losing sight of today! Although it may be natural to hold our breath, waiting for tomorrow to make our wishes and dreams come true I know that . . . tomorrow is not promised. This poem reflects my desire and commitment, to the love of my life, to embrace every moment of today as if it were our last . . .
Tomorrow is Not Promised
Tomorrow is not promised
Only today belongs to me
I want to spend my today with you
I need you to understand, I need you to see
That our days are always numbered
We just don’t know, we don’t understand
We are too busy planning for tomorrow
We forget that fate may not cooperate with our plans
I know we have wishes and dreams too
And I want so badly for all of them to come true
And I know from the softness in your eyes and tenderness of your kiss
That this is what you want too
But there are no guarantees that tomorrow will ever come
No assurances or promises we can keep
No wishful thinking, no hopeful pleading
That can make this be done
So I offer you my trust and my faith
And I tell you with my lips and my embrace
Tomorrow is not promised
But in today we can find our place
Embrace it with me, every moment of today
Seize our day, live it as if it were our last
I want to keep it forever
Even when it has passed
I want every day to be a today and not a waiting for tomorrow
I want today to be a joy remembered
A gift treasured and cherished for all time
Instead of a memory enveloped in a sorrow
So take my hand, give me your heart
Put away your worries and your troubles
There is no need for them
For in today they have no part
Join me for a picnic on the shores of bliss
Feel the sand beneath your sweet feet
The waves tickling your delicious toes
Let our laughter and our joy be all there is
Savour the red wine that is as bold as your smile
Let me wonder in your eyes
Let me roam in your soul
Let us linger in our love for a long, long while
Let this day last forever
Let me tell you I love you more
Let today claim your heart in rapture
Throw away the thought of never
For all of our fears and all of our tears
We know that nothing can stay
Even time reminds us without mercy
That we cannot count our lives in years
Today we can plunge and we can dive
And this moment shall be more than enough
For tomorrow is not promised
And in this precious today we will live fully alive
