Did you know that there is a word for the concept of low self-esteem in every language in the world? I didn’t know this until I read a book called the “Revolution from Within” by Gloria Steinman. I did however know, only too well, my own feelings of insecurity and self-doubt.
As I look back I know these feelings and beliefs I had about myself created anxiety and distress and made my life so much more difficult than it needed to be. Worse still I now realize they stopped me from doing things I could have done and in doing so prevented me from becoming the real me.
Throughout my life I have had so much to give and so much hope in my heart but I was always afraid that I wasn’t good enough, so I settled for less than who I was and what I had to give.
I wrote the poem “Dare” because I have come to realize in my lifetime of self-doubt that we are all more, and can be more, than we ever allow ourselves to think, hope or dream.
I want to encourage you to imagine, to hope, to dream, to believe in yourself.
It is within your power. I dare you to be great.
Take the challenge!
Dare
Dare to be
Dare to be vulnerable
Dare to be different
Dare to be you
Dare to stand up
Dare to be counted
Dare to have a voice
Dare to speak your truth
Dare to imagine
Dare to hope
Dare to dream
Dare to believe
Dare to care
Dare to be kind
Dare to be proud
Dare to be humble
Dare to hold on
Dare to let go
Dare to forgive
Dare to move on
Dare to create
Dare to create beauty
Dare to see beauty
Dare to see beauty in you
Dare to feel blessed
Dare to accept grace
Dare to love and be loved
Dare to be great!
